Root Canal Therapy

At the centre of every tooth is a nerve and a blood supply-what some might call the 'heart' of the tooth’. Sometimes this heart can die which can cause a lot of pain. Heartbreak always hurts-even in your teeth. Rest assured this kind of heartbreak is easier to fix!

If you find yourself in a lot of pain, root canal is an easy 3-visit procedure to get you out of pain and keep you out of pain.

The three steps to root canal therapy are:

  1. Getting you out of pain – after ensuring your tooth is pain and sensation-free with local anaesthetic, we remove the cause of the problem (usually tooth decay or cracks that allow bacteria to infect the nerve of the tooth). We then remove the ‘numbed’ infected nerve in the middle of the tooth, disinfect the canals where the nerves are found with various medicines, and seal the tooth with a new temporary filling. This should do the trick and get you out of pain immediately.
  2. Disinfecting the tooth – ranging from a couple of weeks to months after the first visit, we see you again to completely remove the bacteria from the nerve canals and shape them with high-tech rotary tooth files ready to finish the therapy.
  3. Keeping you out of pain! When you are symptom free, we finish the root canal by sealing up the disinfected empty nerve canals. We then build the tooth back with a filling and crown. Why a crown? To ensure it is a useful valuable tooth for you for the long haul, as it prevents bacteria getting back in and the tooth breaking under all that food you love to eat.

People often hear the words ‘root canal’ and think of painful, expensive and unsuccessful solutions. Not so here! Get in contact with us and we can help you get out of pain and stay out of pain.
